Williams Engineering Canada (WEC) was retained by Nova Hotel Group to complete engineering design and services during the civil-utilities and civil-hydrologic works for the construction of a new hotel in Yellowknife, NT. WEC’s Duties and responsibilities identified included overcoming hurdles associated with the site layout, utilities, drainage concerns, traffic issues, site access concerns, unfavourable site conditions and public relations.
WEC spearheaded and participated in meetings with city regulators, owners and construction contractors in order to move the project forward and meet construction schedules. WEC provided resources and solutions when technical challenges were faced and provided recommendations on week-to-week construction issues.
WEC delivered on design drawings, specifications, civil construction details and systems modelling, where required. Chateau Nova Yellowknife opened to the public in November 2016 and celebrated the grand opening of the facility soon after. The brand new facility is a full service hotel with 141 rooms with additional rooms for conferences and meetings. The location features amenities such as steam room, sauna and fitness centre plus a restaurant and lounge located off the lobby.
When working at a site in Yellowknife, NT or a location that has cold weather there are certain precautions that must be taken. WEC believes it is important to make sure the integrity of work conducted is not jeopardized when exposed to harsh climates. WEC was pleased to provide services that resulted in the successful completion of the project and contribute to Chateau Nova Hotel’s visitors and staff experience.
