Developed by Knightsbridge Homes, University City is a vibrant community comprised of five beautiful condominium buildings located on the northwest edge of Brentwood Village in Calgary, Alberta. The community is surrounded by ample amenities including the University of Calgary Research Park, Foothills Hospital, Alberta Children’s Hospital, and three malls which help make University City a highly sought after location.
Williams Engineering Canada (WEC) scope of work included providing a design review of the building envelope and roofing detail drawings. The building’s window wall system presented unique challenges during construction. During the design review portion of this project, we provided written recommendations and sketches for additional details and possible detail improvements, and worked with the design team and general contractor to discuss our review of these details. During pre-construction, we reviewed product data and material samples provided by the architect.
Special attention to the detailing of the air barrier, construction joints, tie-ins between various building envelope components, and workmanship was taken during the building envelope site reviews. As part of the building envelope commissioning process, onsite air leakage and water penetration testing was conducted to confirm wall system performance and detailing. We also provided site reviews for the roofing system including pre-final and final inspections.
