To commemorate Canada’s 150th Celebration, the Arts & Design in Public Places Program commissioned five new art installations for the Capital Boulevard Legacy Public Art Project. Capital Boulevard encompasses five blocks between 99 Avenue and 104 Avenue, in Edmonton, Alberta. The five finalists were selected from a group of 48 artists based out of Alberta that were invited to participate.
The finalists included:
“Natures Harmony” by Leo Arcand
“Sentinel” by Sandra Bromley
“Transect” by Julia Reimer & Tyler Rock
“World Enough, and Time” by Ken Macklin
“Star Gazer – Koo-koo-sint” by Dawn Detarando & Brian McArthur
Williams Engineering (WE) provided foundation and lighting design for the installation of all five sculptures. In addition, WE provided project management and coordination services with the prime contractor, Krawford Construction. Our structural team also provided design support for two of the five art installations, specifically Sandra Bromley’s “Sentinel” sculpture and Leo Arcand’s “Nature’s Harmony” sculpture.
This project was funded in part by the Government of Canada, The Alberta Foundation of the Arts and The City of Edmonton, with Support of the Downtown Business Association and The Works Society.
WE is proud to have been a part of this celebration and contribute to Canada’s 150th anniversary. These sculptures create an enduring focal point, visible between the Alberta Legislature and MacEwan University for everyone living and visiting the city of Edmonton to enjoy.
