The Islamic Academy of Edmonton is a triumph of collaboration that provides traditional education with modern sensibility for more than 1,000 students from kindergarten to grade twelve. Williams Engineering Canada (WEC) and Barr Ryder Architects and Interior Designers worked together as prime consultants to design and build an institution that is functional, beautiful, and representative of Canada’s multi-cultural spirit.
Our firm supplied geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, and building science engineering expertise for the school, which houses a gymnasium, cafeteria, multimedia rooms, computer labs, libraries, prayer area, and both elementary and junior/senior high school classrooms. Special design considerations were made to ensure that the school is energy efficient, comfortable for occupants, and sensitive to the needs and beliefs of the Muslim community. The result is a modern structure imbued with traditional values that is a centre of both education and community.
WEC is proud to have partnered with the Canadian Islamic Society to produce this Edmonton architectural icon.
