Diamonds; the world’s most precious gemstone was discovered in Northern Canada several decades ago. Since such time, Williams' has been entrusted with providing complex industrial engineering design for the billion dollar industry.
Located in Yellowknife, our Arctic Regional Office provides expert and experienced engineering consulting services throughout the production process to many of the facilities, including Tiffany & Co. Polishing Facility (Laurelton).
Williams' structural, mechanical, and electrical staff completed designs and construction for the 1,144 m2 base building of the Tiffany facility. The building was designed to handle polishing operations for Tiffany’s in the Northwest Territories. Significant security designs had to be considered, including site lighting and electrical devices (security cameras, access control, and intrusion detection). Security systems were provided to allow for monitoring of site and interior areas, as well as to restrict access to authorized personnel only. Site lighting coordination with Yellowknife airport authority was necessary to ensure compliance with their requirements. Due to the nature of the processing operations, specialized ventilation and dust removal equipment was also required.
Although the polishing facility is now closed, the building represents the state of the art in polishing facilities in the Northwest Territories.
