Construction began in March 2011 to build a province-wide two-way radio network for public safety first responder agencies including police, fire, and ambulance. The Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System (AFRRCS) will help coordinate first responders in the event of emergencies and/or natural disasters, and it will also be used for day-to-day operations. Williams Engineering Canada (WEC) provided Suncor with design services to construct a new operational complex in Fort McMurray, comprised of an office building, lube warehouse and truck shop. WEC assessed the priority items, which included research and confirmation of the lube system. Specific requirements and timelines for permitting were established with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. This facilitated the submission of the development and building permits, and enabled completion of a detailed project schedule.
