Located on Kelowna’s waterfront, the Westcorp Kelowna Hotel will be built on the historic site of the Willow Inn Hotel. The Kelowna hotel is anticipated to consist of 33 storeys, comprised of 174 hotel rooms, 40 privately owned residential units, a conference centre, fitness centre, retail space, coffee shop and an abundance of underground parking. The design will also feature a restaurant on the 17th floor with extensive views of Okanagan Lake and surrounding mountain ranges.
Williams Engineering Canada is providing mechanical engineering services for the Westcorp Kelowna hotel development working alongside GCA Architects from Barcelona, Spain and IBI Group. The luxury design is anticipated to be one of the tallest buildings in Kelowna; featuring services similar to brands such as The Fairmont Pacific Rim, Hotel Georgia, Shangri La and Le Germain.
The hotel’s mechanical system is being designed using high efficiency equipment, including a water source Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) with Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) using multiple Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) to provide heating, air conditioning and ventilation to this large mixed-use building. These two highly efficient systems have been used to compensate for the challenging envelope design, which incorporates extensive 360 degree glazing and balconies. A Building Performance Energy Model was also conducted to maximize glazing while minimizing thermal bridging for the extensive balconies.
The Kelowna hotel is to provide a multitude of amenities, so it was essential the mechanical systems design consider all elements vital of a high-rise tower. Our team’s goal is to ensure the building is operating efficiently and designed with sustainable practices while adhering to the architect’s vision; which will allow guests unobstructed and breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
