Currently the only operating multi-specialty public health clinic on Burnaby Mountain, the PolyCan Health Centre provides world-class healthcare to the student, faculty and staff community of Simon Fraser University as well as the residents of Burnaby Mountain. With experts in family medicine, walk-in care, women’s health, sports medicine and rehabilitation, preventative care and registered massage therapy, the PolyCan Health Centre has a highly qualified team strongly dedicated to clinical excellence.
Retained as the mechanical and electrical sub-consultants on this renovation project, Williams Engineering (WE) used an integrated design approach with consistent communication and coordination between the facility staff and project team. An initial site visit was completed, confirming existing systems against record drawings. WE’s electrical team provided designs for power distribution layouts, lighting, emergency life safety systems, communication systems and modifications to the fire alarm systems. The mechanical design included thorough assessments of and modifications to the existing HVAC and plumbing systems, fire suppression systems and access requirements for medical gases, natural gas and pneumatic tube systems.
Reaching the objective of maintaining the project budget and timeline has further enabled PolyCan Health Centre to continue thriving and serving its growing community. WE’s experienced design, in collaboration with the project team, was a key contribution to the innovative delivery of this enhanced healthcare facility.
