Located in Langley, British Columbia, Trinity Western University is a Christian liberal arts post-secondary institution founded in 1962 and currently enrolls over 4,000 students. Acknowledging the need for updated space and technology, the University moved forward with the opportunity to expand the current Fosmark building on its main campus. This new expansion enables the facility to better accommodate current and future students and staff, enhancing the experience offered at Trinity Western University.
The existing Fosmark Building is a wood-framed, two-storey Graduate Collegium building totalling roughly 27,000 sq. ft. The expansion included a two-storey addition to the southwest and northeast corners, a renovation to the existing interior and a significant classroom addition on the second floor. Acting as the mechanical and electrical sub-consultants, Williams Engineering’s (WE) team brought extensive experience in designing high-quality educational facilities to the project. WE’s multi-disciplinary team first conducted reviews to assess the condition of the existing mechanical and electrical systems. As the building was approximately 25 years old, various systems were approaching or past their end of service life and required replacements and upgrades. WE’s mechanical team provided the design of plumbing systems and heating and ventilation systems with the requirement to meet ASHRAE/NECB compliance. The electrical team prepared working drawings for power, communications, lighting and life safety systems. Construction administration services for the project were also provided by WE, including the review of contractor shop drawings and issuing clarifications for mechanical and electrical conflicts relevant to the site.
Modern design elements and West Coast inspired architecture support the goal of creating an inviting place for students and staff to gather and connect on campus. The investment made by Trinty Western University with the expansion and addition to the Fosmark Building is a testament to their dedication to enhancing the physical environment where their faculty inspire and teach students each day.
