How many years of experience do you have?
I have 7 years of experience. I have worked in the Medical Technology Industry, E-Commerce Industry, Accounting Service Industry, Government, Non-Profit and now in the EPC Industry.
What did your career progression leading up to today look like?
I started my career in India with a Bachelors’s in Business Administration. I held diverse roles in marketing, accounting, taxation, research before making my way to Canada to pursue my Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Alberta. During my MBA, I worked at the City of Edmonton and provided consulting on food insecurity and later at Williams Engineering as a Business Consultant. Once I graduated, I continued to work at Williams as a Change Management Consultant, and within a year, I moved on to be responsible for the company Strategy and Purpose. I have been in this last role for about two years now.
Describe the 3 characteristics about yourself that you believe led you to your success in business.
1) I have been told that I have the competency to think strategically and envision a future while also the skill to operationalize it. This has worked well for me as it was the one common trait required in most of my career and life roles until now.
2) I am very driven by my own purpose. I truly care about people, and I want to be able to give them what they need. Because I care, I have thrown myself 100% into everything that I do. I have been told that I have an innate understanding of people, and I believe this is so, only because, at the core, I want to add something positive to the life of every person that I can.
3) I don’t chase perfection; I believe that done is better than perfect. This belief has allowed me to diversify and do a lot more with my time than I would have been able to otherwise. The more I diversified, the more opportunities came knocking at my door, which has been key to my professional journey.
How does your work positively impact women of Edmonton and/or women of the world?
With my role, we have the company’s Core Purpose and Strategy in one place so that every strategic initiative that we build comes from a place of Purpose. Every strategic imperative keeps in-mind inclusivity. We also have a dedicated strategy to build an inclusive space for women in our company and to increase the representation of women in STEM fields. I believe when we have more representation of women, we will have infrastructure designs that are inclusive to all genders.
