This year, International Women’s Day (IWD) marks 115 years of collective action, advocacy, and progress toward gender equality.
The IWD 2026 theme is #GiveToGain. This campaign encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration. Give To Gain emphasizes the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase.
IWD serves as a powerful reminder that equality is a social, economic, and human rights imperative that benefits everyone. When women thrive, communities prosper, innovation accelerates, and societies become more just and resilient. Celebrating 115 years of IWD is about recognizing how far we have come, while collectively committing to how far we still must go.
At Williams Engineering, we actively discuss and explore how we can #GiveToGain, while continuously reviewing our internal processes to ensure our solutions promote gender equality.
Over the past four years, we have partnered with the University of Alberta to provide the Williams Engineering Award in Engineering, a scholarship awarded to a female student currently pursuing an engineering degree. This scholarship aims to support the education of a young female engineering student and provide equitable opportunities for the recipient. The 2024/2025 Williams Engineering Women’s Award in Engineering was awarded to Kyla Fald. You can read more about Kyla’s experience here.
We encourage you to visit this year’s IWD resource site and reflect on how you can contribute to ensuring more equity in our communities.
