Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

As a purpose-driven company, we know that the world of today and tomorrow needs to be more inclusive, and we see ourselves creating spaces where people can feel included, recognized, and valued. This belief extends past the infrastructure we design and is illustrated each day by our commitment to fully promoting diversity and inclusion with our teammates at Williams Engineering. In thinking globally, we’ve been able to align our purpose with three of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, including Sustainable Cities and Communities, Reduced Inequalities and Gender Equality.

Part of Our Values

Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity (DEI) forms part of our values and purpose as an organization. We have updated all our company documentation, including policies and job descriptions, to reflect gender-neutral language to allow individuals from all backgrounds and genders to secure employment and move through various roles within our organization.

Equal Opportunity

Our Equal Opportunity policy states that we are an equal opportunity employer and therefore are committed to providing a workplace that embraces diversity and equal opportunities free from discrimination.

We are committed to making all employment decisions, including hiring, training, promotion, salary and benefits, without regard to gender, race, colour, age, etc. Our senior leadership team supports this commitment. We have representation from various ethnic backgrounds and genders at all levels of leadership. In our hiring practices, our Human Resources team works closely with hiring managers to ensure fair representation of finalized candidates (when and wherever possible).

Brightening Lives

We hope that our efforts and the community initiatives we support brighten people’s lives in our communities while continuing to help design and build a brighter future through the services we provide. At Williams Engineering, we want to be at the forefront of change and bring others with us. A better world awaits us, and we’re taking action, which includes steps with our DEI strategy and initiatives, to make that world a reality sooner rather than later.

We realize how a well-thought-out DEI strategy can help drive parts of the company strategy and contribute to the overall welfare of our people and the communities we serve. Recently we have partnered with the University of Alberta to offer a scholarship to a female BIPOC student pursuing an engineering degree.
