Akin is a new addition to downtown Kelowna’s growing rental market. It features several onsite amenity rooms, including a games room, co-working lounge, theatre, family room, lounge, and meeting spaces. In addition to these rooms, Akin offers a state-of-the-art fitness centre for residents with a spin studio and an abundance of equipment. The development is also pet-friendly, complete with a dog wash station and outdoor dog run.
Williams Engineering (WE) provided building envelope consulting engineering services for the design, working drawings, construction administration and field reviews of Akin. A cursory review of the architectural drawings, specifications and shop drawings was completed to gain an understanding of the building envelope and roofing design. WE provided building envelope site reviews during the course of construction. Included in these reviews were the preparation and distribution of site visit reports and pre-final and final reviews. In addition, roofing system site reviews were completed to ensure the roofing system met the warranty requirements of the roofing membrane manufacturer. Thickness tests and bond strength tests were completed by WE after the completion of the traffic membrane in Akin’s parkade. This testing included 5 parking stall locations, 10 drive lane locations and 3 corner locations.
