Williams Engineering (WE) acted as the Prime Consultant and provided the electrical engineering services for the remediation of IT closets at numerous Calgary Board of Education school sites. This project involved our services for the design, installation, and testing for the remediation of 48 IT closets in 27 schools between 2021 and 2024.
Our electrical team first conducted reviews to assess the condition of the existing systems. Designs were provided for the modifications to the lighting and controls, power, IT racks, data cabling, fire alarm and the security systems, meeting the latest Building Code requirements.
As the prime consultant, we reviewed, advised and supported the architect and mechanical engineering sub-consultant throughout the course of the project. Our team monitored construction and ensured that the work was executed per the design documents and that the modifications were installed and functioned as intended.
This project brought the electrical (lighting and control, power), data cabling, new system racks, fire alarm and security systems into one designated room, complete with new architectural and mechanical upgrades. This ensured that the IT systems operated in the most efficient and reliable manners. The new location was clean, secure and comfortable to reduce IT equipment maintenance and/or replacement costs for CBE.
This project was completed in association with sub-consultants McKay Hlavacek Architects Ltd. and Reinbold Engineering Group.
