Dodd’s Corner & Heartland Retail Sites

The Town of Cochrane is located approximately 20 minutes west of Calgary, Alberta and has experienced steady growth over the past few years. Williams Engineering (WE) was excited to be a part of their development in 2018, when we were retained by Suncor to act as the Prime Consultant and provide multi-discipline consulting engineering services, including structural, mechanical, electrical and civil in-house engineering services, as well as engage an architectural and landscape subconsultant to complete the Petro-Canada Heartland and Dodd’s Corner retail sites concurrently.

The Dodd’s Corner site originally housed a Sunnyside Greenhouse, which needed to be demolished and the site remediated, prior to the commencement of our work. The development within our scope included a new N3000 building (Neighbours convenience store with an A & W integrated) with an 8-channel fuel island and 20M glide car wash.

The Heartland retail site included the development of a new N3000 (TDL) C-Store and 6-channel gas bar. As part of Suncor’s standard practice, a sustainable approach is always required and utilized whenever possible. Our subject matter experts were heavily relied upon to ensure the Dodd’s Corner car wash design incorporated sustainable technology.

Both projects were part of a larger development plan for the site, which posed its own unique set of challenges, such as managing through development constraints, permitting challenges, and implementing civil infrastructure for unplanned future use. This required advanced coordination and communication measures with our Client and Developers. WE leveraged our in-house resources to ensure the multi-discipline services we provided were coordinated seamlessly, utilizing a Senior Project Manager as our single point of contact, to ensure all project details were appropriately managed and received the attention required to facilitate successful delivery of each project phase.
