Foyer Maillard is a new three storey, 120 unit residential care facility, built to replace an aging building on an existing site. The facility will accommodate residents with numerous amenities to ensure a seamless lifestyle transition, including a beauty salon, spiritual space and a landscaped secure outdoor space. The fully staffed residences will offer professional multi-disciplinary care providers on a 24 hour basis. The facility features community dining rooms, resident lounge space and a quiet room in addition to private single bedrooms equipped with their own washrooms. The building is a mixture of concrete underground parkade and basement, which houses the main kitchen and administration services, built under three levels of wood frame residential care, containing a total floor area of 84,000 ft².
Williams Engineering (WE) was responsible for the mechanical systems design, which features hot water radiant floors with individual room thermostat control, with heated and cooled ventilation and continuous exhaust provided through the central heat recovery air handling units. Amenity spaces are heated and cooled through a central variable air volume air handling unit with heat recovery. Domestic hot water is generated through central high efficiency boilers. WE was also the electrical engineer-of-record, in a design-assist and review capacity. Our expertise was used to review the power distribution and load calculations; ASHRAE compliance and IESNA recommended practices; and fire alarm and life-safety systems.
This facility is a welcomed addition to the community and will comfortably house and aid the growing seniors’ population for years to come.
