Glacier Ridge is a brand-new community in the northern quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Residents benefit from easy access to walking trails and outdoor spaces, proximity to the ring road, numerous schools, and plenty of amenities. This new development provides Calgarians with a fully landscaped exterior, a community garden in the common outdoor space, and both main floor and exterior bike storage.
Williams Engineering (WE) is providing the building envelope and energy modelling consulting engineering services for Phase 4 of the Glacier Ridge Multifamily development. The project consists of a single 4-storey residential building with a single level of below-grade parking provided.
Our services during the design period included building envelope and roofing design meetings and reviews, as well as specification and shop drawing reviews. We reviewed the building envelope and roofing detail drawings and specifications provided by the architect and provided architectural drawing markups with recommendations and comments regarding the building envelope systems and details. We reviewed building envelope shop drawings when requested, to confirm system suitability and constructability.
Our services during the construction period include site reviews of the building envelope, roofing, and foundation waterproofing systems, with a focus on the detailing of the air barrier, moisture barrier, construction joints, tie-ins between various building envelope components, and workmanship.
Lastly, we are providing a full building energy performance model to evaluate the design’s compliance with NECB 2017. A preliminary model to guide decisions related to envelope performance was provided and included lighting strategies and the mechanical system selection. Our team also created comparative energy models to demonstrate anticipated building performance relative to the NECB baseline.
