National Bank (formerly CWB) recently relocated their headquarters into a newly developed office tower in Manulife Place, a prime location in downtown Edmonton. This move involved an interior fit-out of its 200,000 sqft space across 8 floors. The relocation included a complete demolition back to base building space and new design to suit their needs. The office space includes both enclosed and open office space, a TV studio, a podcast studio, training rooms, meeting rooms, large open gathering spaces and reception spaces.
Williams Engineering (WE) was retained to provide mechanical and electrical consulting engineering services as part of Kasian Architecture Interior Design & Planning’s Prime Design Consultant team. Support was provided to the planning, design, and construction oversight of this TI project.
The electrical design included the addition of the new National Bank sign on the exterior of the building, as well as glare minimizing dimmable LED lighting for comfort for occupants. Power and data design included the addition of a UPS for the critical data systems, as well as a sound masking system. A complete security system was also included.
The mechanical team provided heating, ventilation, cooling, plumbing, and sprinkler systems for the space.
The project was completed in REVIT and used a highly collaborative construction management process which included key sub-contractors at the table during early design. This allowed for minimal change orders during construction as well as a client, contractor, and design team who were all aligned on the design prior to construction starting. The project was completed and occupied in stages with floors being turned over as they were completed.
Williams Engineering delivered services through all project phases, including schematic design, design development, contract documents, construction administration, and field services. This comprehensive involvement ensured coordinated, efficient building systems that support National Banks operational needs, performance objectives, and long-term flexibility within their new headquarters.
