New Opportunities for Women (NOW) Canada provides programs and ongoing support to women and youth who have experienced addiction, abuse and mental health challenges in British Columbia. NOW provides a safe and welcoming environment to allow participants to embark on the road to recovery with dignity.
Williams Engineering (WE) was retained by NOW Canada to provide the building envelope consulting services for the new NOW Canada Women’s Shelter in Kelowna, BC. This project involves the construction of a 5-storey, multi-family residential building with 34 residential suites. The roof is equipped with solar panels to increase energy efficiency and energy usage.
Our design review services included a comprehensive review of the building envelope design. In addition to reviewing the project specifications and shop drawings, our team focused on assessing system suitability and constructability to ensure seamless integration and long-term performance. As the project does not include below grade parking, WE are providing our foundation waterproofing/water management site reviews during the construction of the elevator pits.
This project is an important for expanding access to safe housing and recovery services for underserved groups – particularly women, youth, and gender-diverse individuals. By providing services to a project that expands access to safe and supportive recovery housing, we are putting our core value into action: Diverse perspectives create diverse solutions.
Our team is excited to be working alongside BC Housing, Now Canada Society and New Town Architecture for the development of this project.
