Peter Lougheed Hall

The University of Alberta was in need of additional student housing near campus to house first-year students and student leaders. The project was undertaken in the summer of 2015 and completed in the summer of 2017.

A building envelope consultant was required to review the work in progress and work in coordination with the architectural and general contractor teams. The project entailed a total of 78 suites, 143 beds and three guest suites to be completed to support the 2017 fall intake. Williams Engineering (WE) provided building envelope consulting services such as architectural drawing reviews, site reviews during construction and thermographic scans.

A unique aspect of this project was the design and purpose of the building. The client’s vision called for a modern-style building, as well as a functional and eye-catching interior courtyard, to create a welcoming living space for students. The exposure and location of this project provided were also unique, as it is located between HUB mall and Edmonton’s river valley. The project was a success due to attention to detail and continuous open communication with the client and contractors.

Peter Lougheed Hall currently houses over 140 university students and offers social and recreational spaces, a dining hall and a fitness area. Williams Engineering is proud to have contributed to providing a safe and sustainable residential space for first-year students and looks forward to future projects with The University of Alberta.
