Williams Engineering (WE) provided Suncor with design services to construct a new operational complex in Fort McMurray which includes an office building, lube warehouse, and truck shop.
Specific requirements and timelines for permitting were established with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, which facilitated the submission of the development and building permits, and enabled completion of a detailed project schedule.
During the initial design, WE’s goal was to understand the use of the lube system by researching challenges with prior systems and confirming specific requirements for the proposed system. By reviewing options with manufacturers and suppliers together with Suncor’s team, we identified the preferred system and associated costs.
Pre-engineered buildings were pre-tendered to ensure that the tight schedule could be achieved. Construction was scheduled and contractors were required to confirm deliverables. Throughout the project the communication strategy was reviewed for effectiveness and modified as required.
