Williams Engineering Canada partners with the ELITE Program for Black Youth

July 27, 2021

Williams Engineering Canada Inc. is thrilled to have partnered with the Experiential Learning in Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (ELITE) Program for Black Youth to host three interns this year. This unique program, created by Dr. André McDonald, is designed to create opportunities for Black Youth in universities and high schools to access experiential learning and work-integrated training in the STEM fields.

At Williams Engineering Canada, we are purposeful with the initiatives that we support. Our collective team strives to engineer cities and communities that brighten the lives of people and help create cities and communities that are inclusive and resilient. We identify the lack of Black representation in our industry and want to do our part in improving representation. One of our core values is to encourage diverse perspectives and create diverse solutions. We understand that optimum performance and require diverse team perspectives to collectively build inclusive infrastructure. A rudimentary step to creating an inclusive team that can then build inclusive designs is to provide hands-on experience to our youth by providing them with valid work experience and by creating a safe and inclusive space for all.

We are delighted to have Heena Singla, Sohaib Omar, and Thierry Asongwe join our Sustainability, Mechanical and Electrical teams this summer. It’s a privilege to welcome our new student teammates and be afforded the opportunity to impact our community by partnering with the ELITE Program for Black Youth.
