Williams Engineering (WE) is pleased to announce that our team, located in Edmonton, Alberta, was awarded the 2023 Exterior Lighting Award for electrical services completed at the Diwan at the Aga Khan Garden! The outdoor lighting design award recognizes excellence in lighting design and application in all aspects of exterior lighting. The program celebrates achievements in aesthetics, applied technical acumen, creative solutions to demanding site conditions, and advancements in outdoor lighting applications in the industry.
WE worked with Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning while providing mechanical and electrical engineering services for this two-storey new construction project at the University of Alberta. The Diwan was opened within the Aga Khan Garden in 2022 as a warm and welcoming gathering space for events at the gardens. The building won the 2023 IES Edmonton Exterior Lighting Design Award for its exceptional exterior lighting design. Lighting control is accomplished via photocell and timeclock to ensure lighting is only on when the park is occupied. Lighting fixtures are a combination of linear and downlight LED fixtures, with the majority of sources hidden from view. The exterior lighting was designed using 2700K and 3000K LEDs to highlight the building as a warm space for people in the community to gather, learn, and celebrate.
