The Radius multi-residential building is located in the neighbourhood of Bridgeland in Calgary, Alberta. The area is a prime location, situated near the banks of with Bow river, with diners, local markets, and a variety of other exciting establishments.
Williams Engineering Canada (WEC) provided building science consulting services for the Radius building. Our services included review and consulting on the building envelope design with respect to building envelope systems and details, a review of material compatibilities, and system constructability, mock-ups of critical envelope details, and on-site reviews during construction. As with all our projects, WEC provided the client with a risk analysis when building envelope decisions were required.
As winter construction posed building envelope challenges, WEC provided material, detail and sequencing solutions which mitigated the effect on the construction schedule. As well, the Owner wished to use a newer window system which raised questions regarding window performance and durability. WEC reviewed the manufacturing facility’s methodology and quality control processes and provided additional feedback to improve the overall product quality, uniformity and performance. Final product performance and quality control was confirmed with on-site testing of the windows.
Overall, the windows and building envelope are sustainable features of the building. The project was a success due to the quality of the site crew, the general contractor, and the commitment of the owner to the quality of the overall project. The Radius in Bridgeland is serving the upbeat community, and offers residents safe, innovative, and sustainable living options.
