Northgate Transit Centre is a busy bus terminal servicing thousands of commuters daily. Williams Engineering Canada participated in the replacement of the terminal that features expanded indoor waiting areas, new public and ETS driver washrooms, a security office, and a new leasable kiosk space.
The redevelopment of the station strikes a balance between artful design and functionality with an open concept. Building Information Modeling software and collaboration strategies were used throughout the design and construction of the project.
The electrical systems are energy efficient and take into account daylighting opportunities. The mechanical systems were designed to integrate seamlessly with the architectural clean lines and to use energy and water as efficiently as possible within the available capital budget.
The Northgate Transit Centre recently won an Award of Merit for the 2014 Prairie Design Awards.
