CHC South Calgary

Located in the community of South Calgary, these wood-framed condominiums feature twenty-four apartment suites over three storeys. Originally constructed in 1987, the building utilizes a concrete basement as a parking garage and  features a laundry room for residents. Operated by the Calgary Housing Company (CHC), these units provide affordable housing to Calgary’s low-income community. As evidence of water and ice penetration throughout the parking garage and residential building began to show, Alberta Social Housing Corporation identified the need for an assessment from an engineering consultant to provide recommendations for repairs.

Working closely with CHC, Williams Engineering (WE) provided building envelope and structural consulting engineering services for this residential development. These services included a visual assessment and report of the structural, building envelope and roofing components observed by WE. A Class 3 Cost Estimate was provided within WE’s report to outline the priority level and cost of each repair and recommendation. Once repairs and upgrades were identified and approved, WE provided the structural and building envelope designs and specifications to proceed with the required work. Construction administration services were completed, including tender assistance, building permit application and site visits throughout the construction phase.

Ensuring buildings that provide low-income housing for families and individuals remain resilient is a main objective for CHC. CHC currently provides housing to over 25,000 Calgarians. This building provides access to safe and affordable housing with rental programs available on behalf of the City of Calgary and the Government of Alberta.
