Currie Commons

Currie Commons is a multi-phase residential townhome development located in Calgary’s established southwest community of Currie. The project consists of approximately 65 units across 15 townhome buildings, designed to deliver high-quality, low-density housing within a thoughtfully planned neighbourhood. Williams Engineering (WE) provided the mechanical consulting engineering services for the design and construction of this development, supporting the project from concept through to occupancy.

Williams Engineering was responsible for the design and coordination of all mechanical systems across Currie Commons. This included plumbing systems such as domestic hot and cold water, sanitary drainage, and roof and footing drainage. Heating for the residences was provided through electric baseboard systems, while ventilation was achieved through a central recirculation system. The team also coordinated site servicing connections, including sanitary, storm, gas, and water systems, ensuring alignment with civil and utility requirements. In addition, WE prepared signed and sealed drawings for building permit submission along with ongoing construction administration services, including shop drawing review, design clarifications, and field reviews.

The project was delivered in five phases, requiring a high level of coordination across multiple building types and unit configurations. WE collaborated closely with the architect and consultant team to ensure the mechanical systems would be fully integrated within the overall design and responsive to the needs of each phase.

Through a  practical design approach, WE delivered mechanical systems that are efficient, reliable, and well-suited to residential occupancy. The phased delivery strategy and project approach enabled consistency across the development while accommodating variations in unit and building types. Clear documentation and ongoing construction support contributed to an efficient permitting process and smooth construction progression.
