Father Lacombe Catholic School

Father Lacombe Catholic School is a K-9 school that serves roughly 300 students each year in Lacombe, Alberta. Originally constructed in 1957, Father Lacombe was one of twenty schools selected for modernization projects by the Alberta Government. Upon further assessment, it was determined a full school rebuild would be required to meet the goals and expectations of the project and community. The finished project achieves many of the hopes and aspirations identified in the conceptual phase, including tons of natural light, gathering spaces, and open and accessible office space and break-out spaces for students.

Construction of this project was completed in three phases, two of which allowed for the existing school structure to remain open and operable. The newly constructed gymnasium was built first so students would be able to utilize the space after the existing gym was demolished, decreasing disruptions to regular school activities. Williams Engineering (WE) provided the mechanical consulting engineering services for this school rebuild project. These services included designing a complete plumbing system that provides reliable and efficient water distribution throughout the facility. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning were designed by WE to create a comfortable, energy-efficient indoor environment in addition to fire protection designs to enhance the safety of the school.
