Gariepy is an established neighbourhood located in Edmonton, Alberta. The City of Edmonton has been working to update and modernize the 1970s neighbourhood and the nearby Gariepy Park since 2022 as part of the overarching Neighbourhood Renewal project. The Neighbourhood Renewal project is working to rehabilitate residential roads, replace streetlights, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and adds missing sidewalk links, where possible. This improves how people walk, bike, gather in the neighbourhood, and how they can enjoy the surrounding parks.
Williams Engineering (WE) was retained to provide our Lighting Consulting Design services for the new service, new meters and new lighting connections as part of the Gariepy Neighbourhood Renewal project. Our scope involved the lighting investigation plan, street & alley lighting design, and the lighting design for Gariepy Park.
We initially developed a lighting investigation plan that outlined the locations of existing utilities, equipment to be demolished, and a zoning plan identifying street lighting zones and titled land assets. Our team combined this information and provided a concept report to the City of Edmonton, detailing the street lighting, titled land renewal, and site work plans.
Next, we delivered the street and alley lighting design and designs which included the review, tender, and IFC drawings. We have also provided designs for Gariepy Park, which included power, control and lighting layout designs. Lastly, our team created lighting simulations, including isolines, and supported the tendering process for the project.
The project is currently under construction and expected to be completed within the 2025 construction season.
