Originally constructed in 1995, the Leduc RCMP Detachment houses fire services in addition to the RCMP. The facility was identified as a high priority to expand and renovate to meet the growing needs of the detachment staff to properly serve the communities in and around Leduc. The original building was approximately 1,180 square meters, and the expansion covers an additional 1,900 square meters of space that is expected to easily support the detachment for up to 30 more years of growth.
Williams Engineering (WE) provided mechanical consulting engineering services for the renovation and expansion of the protective services building. This project included a detailed review of the existing services to understand the requirements of the renovation. Plumbing systems, heating systems and ventilation systems were encompassed in WE’s mechanical designs, including ventilation rates and schematics. WE also performed site reviews during construction and construction administration services to support the tender phase of the project. The project was broken out into phases because of the need to keep the detachment fully operational during construction. . The expansion and additions to the building were completed at the beginning to ensure staff had space to re-locate during the remainder of the project, including demolition of existing areas and replacements of various building systems.
The facility was completed in December of 2021 and has added much-needed space for Leduc’s essential services workers. This expansion ensures the City of Leduc is prepared for future expansion of provincial and municipal departments that will enable the RCMP and Fire Services to continue to protect and serve the communities of Leduc.
