Onward Homes is a non-profit organization that provides homes to low-income Calgarians. Onward operates over 1,700 units across 31 buildings. They service a mix of low income Calgarians, including those with mental health and mobility challenges, seniors, as well as individuals leaving homelessness and domestic violence.
Williams Engineering (WE) is completing Building Condition Assessments (BCA) and ASHRAE level 3 energy audits on 6 of the Onward Homes buildings. The condition of the Mechanical, Electrical and Building Envelope systems and components were reviewed. WE identified and recommended bundles of Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) to achieve the target energy and emissions savings. These studies were completed under the CMHC Canadian Greener Affordable Housing program and is applying for funding with CMHC to complete the retrofits as well.
Our energy audit scope included:
- Envelope systems
- Lighting (interior and exterior)
- HVAC (cooling, heating, air distribution, ventilation, and exhaust)
- Building automation systems
- Heating, chilled, condenser, and domestic water systems
- Steam systems
- Refrigeration (except food processing)
- Onsite power generation and/or renewable energy systems
- UPS and critical power systems
- Plug loads
