Park West Energy Audit

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Park West is an industrial warehouse building originally constructed in 1978. Following the recent purchase of the building, several upgrades were identified to address lifecycle concerns of existing equipment. Williams Engineering (WE) was retained to provide an ASHRAE Level II Energy Audit for the building with the intent to provide financial analysis on potential energy conservation measures (ECMs) that will inform the decisions around the planned upgrades.

Park West includes approximately 85,000 square feet of floor area, a 41-stall underground parkade and a 49-stall surface parking space. WE completed a preliminary energy use analysis calculating the energy use intensity of the building and baseline greenhouse gas emissions. A site walk-through was then conducted to observe the existing conditions of the building and identify any operational and maintenance deficiencies. WE determined various building envelope and parkade heating system issues that had to be addressed. WE then provided an audit report detailing potential ECMs as well as any low-cost or no-cost re-commissioning opportunities.

Energy Audits on buildings such as Park West improve the air quality, comfort and safety for tenants while reducing maintenance costs and increasing energy savings. WE’s proposed ECMs will effectively reduce Park West’s carbon footprint and ultimately increase the lifespan of the existing and upgraded equipment.
