Sail by Adera is a growing community of 172 one, two, and three bedroom apartment homes located in the University of British Columbia (UBC) peninsula. Williams Engineering (WE) provided mechanical schematic design, design development, and permit and construction documents for this apartment complex.
Sail by Adera is the first six-storey wood frame development at UBC, and was built to REAP Platinum Standards with sustainable eco-friendly green technology. The location features beautiful views of Vancouver and is in close proximity to shopping, public transportation and the university.
Sail by Adera’s mechanical system uses an innovative wastewater heat recovery system that can recapture 75 per cent to 90 per cent of the building’s wastewater energy, and reuse it to provide heat to the hydronic systems in the buildings, thus significantly reducing its environmental footprint.
Hydronic heat is used to provide hot water for domestic use, warm air in all common areas, and radiant floors within the suites for an increased level of comfort for the occupants. A healthy level of fresh air is provided in each suite via individual direct outdoor air inlets, and time-clock controlled exhaust fans to encourage air flow ventilation throughout each unit.
Sail by Adera has achieved multiple awards including: the Canadian Home Builders’ Association SAM Award for the New Home Multi-Family Project, and a Georgie Award for Best Multi-Family Home Builder of the Year.
