ShyLui Condominiums

Originally built in 1969, the ShyLui Condominiums are conveniently located in downtown Calgary, Alberta’s desirable Victoria Park neighbourhood. The eight-storey concrete building offers thirty suites, each boasting its own balcony or patio with south-facing views of Mount Royal and the vibrant 17th Avenue. Residents enjoy open assigned parking behind the building and storage spaces available in the basement.

In 2019, Williams Engineering (WE) was retained to provide building envelope and structural consulting engineering services to complete an assessment to provide options for a new cladding system and patio door replacement throughout the building. An investigation was conducted, and WE provided recommendations for repairs, cost estimates and conceptual design for the project. Following the assessment, WE partnered with CYNC Architecture to complete the engineering services required for the repairs and re-cladding. These services included providing technical specifications, detailed drawings and CCDC2 contract preparation and administration. WE also provided structural and building envelope site reviews to ensure quality and consistency were observed during construction.

A freshly updated exterior adds undeniable value to the ShyLui Condominiums and protects the building against various environmental factors. New cladding and airtight doors and windows increase insulation, effectively providing cost savings to tenants and the building owner, as well as noise reduction.
