Parkland County recognized that the existing space, which houses the RCMP operations, could no longer accommodate program expansion. It was also determined that the program expansion would not serve the community’s long-term needs; therefore, a decision had been made to construct a new building to accommodate RCMP operations for present and future use. The project includes constructing a new building that was designed to serve as the RCMP Detachment.
Williams Engineering (WE) provided mechanical engineering services for this project. The mechanical design incorporated high-efficiency condensing boilers, and fan motors and pump motors to minimize energy consumption. Another design strategy implemented demand-controlled ventilation by using variable air volume boxes to reduce over-ventilation during low periods of occupancy. Additionally, space zoning is controlled by using fan coils to heat and cool the zones. By utilizing sensors and pre-programmed factors, energy and heat consumptions can be smartly operated to produce cost-savings and reduced energy consumption.
The Parkland County RCMP serves both Spruce Grove and Stony Plain communities. WE looks forward to working on future RCMP projects that house various RCMP employees and contribute positively to the safety of communities in various parts of Canada
