Wilsons Walk

Wilsons Walk is an affordable rental high rise building which consists of nine storey, 108 units containing mostly small studio units, with larger one and three bedroom units. There are also two walk up suites that face Wilson Street  that have gated stairs for personal access. The affordable housing project is located in the Vic West community of Victoria, conveniently located minutes away from the downtown core. This ‘near-market’ rental property provides residents with easy access to shops and amenities, including the Victoria West Park and the Galloping Goose Trail.

Williams Engineering supplied mechanical design services for this project which included heating, ventilation, plumbing and fire protection. The residential suites are heated by electric baseboard and the ventilation is provided by an in-suite exhaust fan connected to a 24 hr timeclock. Corridor pressurization is provided on each floor by a roof top air handling unit utilizing a gas fire indirect heat exchanger to provide tempered air. Requirements for high rise building smoke control ventilation system are designed to include vestibule, below grade stairs, and the emergency generator room. Domestic hot water is provided by a central boiler & storage tank system with domestic hot water recirculation systems to maintain hot water temperatures at all plumbing fixtures. Plumbing is designed for all residential fixtures, roof and site drainage requirements. A performance specification sprinkler system & fire pump is designed to meet NFPA-13 requirements.

Wilsons Walk will provide affordable housing for young individuals and families who identify as low-income residents. Construction was completed in October 2016 and units are now being leased.
