Saturday, March 8th, is International Women’s Day (IWD). This year’s campaign theme is #AccelerateAction. This theme emphasizes the importance of taking steps to achieve gender equality. Accelerate Action calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
This is a call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activities that positively impact women’s advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.
As individuals, we can all take steps in our daily lives to positively impact women’s advancement by calling out stereotypes, challenging discrimination, celebrating women’s success, and so much more. Additionally, sharing knowledge and encouragement with others is key.
At Williams Engineering (WE), we actively discuss and explore how we can #AccelerateAction, while continuously reviewing our internal processes to ensure our solutions promote gender equality.
Over the past three years, we have partnered with the University of Alberta to provide the Williams Engineering Award in Engineering, a scholarship awarded to a female student currently pursuing an engineering degree. This scholarship aims to support the education of a young female engineering student and provide equitable opportunities for the recipient. The 2023 Williams Engineering Women’s Award in Engineering was awarded to Kate Bennett. You can read more about Kate’s experience here.
