Located in Calgary’s desirable northwest community of Parkdale, the Parkdale townhomes are a modern development across the street from the Bow River. The development includes four three-storey townhome blocks containing eight homes in each building. Parkdale is conveniently located close to the Foothills Medical Centre, Alberta Children’s Hospital and the University of Calgary. Memorial Drive provides quick and easy access to the downtown core in addition to the many services, shops and restaurants in the neighborhood.
Alongside Brookfield Residential, Williams Engineering (WE) provided the structural consulting engineering services for this townhome development. The buildings feature parking under each unit, rooftop patios and a brick veneer cladding finish. WE’s designs included pilings and pre-engineered wood joists, load-bearing wood walls and a continuous strip footing and frost wall foundation. Elevated structural floors, including decks and columns, were designed by WE’s structural team in addition to the exterior canopies and walls. Specifications and working drawings were prepared and completed for the structural systems. WE provided construction administration services on this new construction project, including site reviews and construction meetings, preparation of notices of change and change orders and provided the required letters of assurance to the City of Calgary. Building Assessment Reports (BARs) were provided for several townhome buildings to detail the constructed building systems and describe any major alterations from the original IFC documents.
