Homes by Avi continues their strong history in the southeast community of Walden in Calgary, Alberta, with the Winston Townhomes. This new multi-residential development features twenty-three two-storey wood-framed townhome buildings and offers convenient access to Macleod Trail, Okotoks and downtown Calgary. Walden is bordered by the Bow River Valley and provides an outdoor natural oasis for residents to enjoy, including parks, pathways, preserved forests, and wetlands.
Williams Engineering (WE) provided the building envelope and sustainability consulting engineering services for this new construction project. A thorough review of the Issued for Tender (IFT) drawings was completed to capture any recommendations pertaining to the building envelope and roofing system. As required by NECB guidelines, WE developed the energy model for the townhome buildings using DesignBuilder and provided energy study reports to determine the building’s energy performance and demonstrate compliance with current energy requirements. Site reviews were completed during the construction of the Winston townhomes to review the progress being made on-site related to the window system, entrances, exterior wall system, deck membrane and roofing system. Building Assessment Reports (BARs) were completed for each building once construction had been completed to describe the installed building envelope components and address any alterations from the original construction documents.
The Winston townhomes showcase a beautiful balance between rural and urban living designed to enrich many lifestyles. An optimized building envelope allows these homes to reduce their energy output and associated costs while keeping residents safe, happy and comfortable.
